Current Positions :

Relief Dairy Farmer

The prime requirement of his position is the responsibility for milking and managing the herd on Sunday to Monday, at the Clive Farm site. The work involves starting milking 5:30/6:00am, with a second milking for the day in the afternoon, around 2:00pm. Total hours paid is eight per day, which allows a 2 hour break 12 - 2 pm.

After milking in the morning, general farmwork such as feeding out, fencing repairs etc will be required.

On Sundays the milking is sole charge, but on Mondays Hohepa residents assist with the milking. A small 3 bay milking machine is used for the herd of up to 35 cows approx. (less in the off-season).

The milk is mostly used in the adjoining cheesery, with a small amount used to supply houses and for small quantity sales of raw milk at the Hohepa shop.

Hohepa follows Bio-dynamic farming principles, requiring specific management of the farm and land treatment.

The suitable person must have a willingness to learn and follow the Bio-dynamic practices, and have a manner suited to working with our Intellectually disabled residents.

Agreeing to a Police check to assure no criminal record that would be unsuitable for working with our residents will also be necessary.

This can be a very rewarding role, gaining the satisfaction of supporting residents as they carry out their farm related tasks, and being part of a caring community.

Phone Grant Hughes, 0296009805 for more information.
